Liam Young: Reimaging the Present: Scenes from a film that doesn’t exist 

Starting with an introductory discussion of iconic scenes of the history of sci-fi and ongoing studio work, the workshop will play on the classic science fiction world-building trope of 'just change one thing', to visualize imaginary worlds, exaggerated presents or strange and speculative futures that are both familiar but at the same time slightly askew.

The lecture unfolds around the argument that within the contemporary city, an new kind of architectural object emerged. This architectural entities looks like buildings, but their purpose is not to host people but to store money. What such an post-human urbanism means for the discipline of architecture and their formal discourse will be demonstrated through several projects and my recent work.

URBAN TECHNIQUE

Interioricity Athens puts emphasis on discussing the city´s urban condition, and the very architectural nature of cities having grown according to individual interests and power, rather than elaborated planning ambitions, resulting in a twofold phenomena: plannend and unplanned islands of difference within the outreaching homogeneous carpet of the Polykatoikia Apartment-house typology. InteriorCity precisely looks at the way that an entity differentiates its inside from its outside in regards to its spatial effects within itself and the larger surrounding. It divides the aspects of the interior into inner and outer, such as can be conceived in the delimitation between ring and hole. Interioricity in this way not only refers to the geometrical properties and its assembly, but aspires to taking into account the forces at play in reformulating the meaning of a political urbanity, exemplified by investigating the central district Exarchia in Athens.
